2024 SUMMER WORKSHOP - July 22nd - 24th

The Opportunity: We are seeking a part-time Interim Choir Director to lead our adult choir from November 2024 through May 2025. This role will focus on guiding choir rehearsals and coordinating performances for Sunday services. The Interim Choir Director will work with our Acting Music Director to ensure the choir’s role on Sundays supports the worship themes and meets the musical and spiritual needs of our congregation. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct weekly choir rehearsals on Wednesday evenings.
  • Direct the choir on Sunday mornings when the choir is scheduled to sing.
  • Collaborate with the Acting Music Director to integrate choir performances into worship service, and implement their musical direction on Sundays.  
  • Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive community within the choir that enables trust and belonging both among the participants and with the wider community. 
  • Provide input to the Acting Music Director on diverse, spiritually resonant repertoire that aligns with worship themes, as well as aligns the work of the choir with the congregation’s larger mis
  • Coordinate logistics and communication with the Acting Music Director regarding choir performances.
  • Attend planning meetings with other staff on occasion to integrate choir with Sunday services. 
  • Provide as-needed support for Comfort Choir gathering in coordination with our Minister for Community Care. 
  • Maintain the music library and ensure choir participants have music as needed for rehearsals, personal practice and Sunday performances. 
  • Maintain a clear, open line of communication with choir members and staff.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a B.A. in Music Education with a focus on Choral Conducting, and enrollment in or completion of a Master’s Program. Masters in Choral Conducting, preferred.
  • Experience leading choirs in diverse settings; familiarity with Unitarian Universalism is a plus.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to inspire and engage both novice and experienced singers.
  • A collaborative spirit and commitment to the values of inclusion and diversity.
  • Comfort with remote collaboration and flexibility in a fast-paced environment.
  • Emotionally intelligent and self-aware, with a commitment to ongoing learning. 
  • Passion for the work of building community through music, taking the work but not themselves too seriously, with a good sense of humor and deeply oriented to joy in life and in work.
