MUSIC DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

The Music Director is an integral part of the spiritual community, leading the music ministry to create an inspiring and inclusive atmosphere. This role involves selecting and performing uplifting music that aligns with each service’s message, engaging the congregation, and supporting both weekly services and special events through music that reflects CSLNOCO’s mission.
Responsibilities:
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the person assigned to this job. However, these statements are not exhaustive and cannot anticipate all possible duties and requirements which may arise during the position.
- Musical Leadership: Lead the congregation in participatory music, and provide improvisational accompaniment as needed during services.
- Music Selection: Collaborate with the Senior Minister to select uplifting music that aligns with each service’s theme and message.
- Library Management: Curate and maintain the New Thought music library, enhancing services with relevant music selections.
- Team Direction: Lead rehearsals for the music team and accompanists, ensuring polished presentations for Sunday services.
- Technical Coordination: Work with sound technicians to manage weekly sound checks and technical rehearsals.
- Budget Oversight: Monitor music ministry expenses, recommending musician compensation within budget guidelines, and secure approvals for exceptions.
- Scheduling: Coordinate musician absences, scheduling guest musicians as needed.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in reading music, playing, and writing chords
- Comfortable performing on stage and engaging an audience
- Strong musical improvisation skills for accompanying various service components
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn New Thought music and artists (prior experience a plus)
- Experience leading and directing a music team, including rehearsals
- Ability to coordinate with technical staff for sound and rehearsal needs
- Budget management skills and familiarity with musician compensation practices
Hours & Compensation:
This part-time, non-exempt position reports directly to the Senior Minister and requires an average of 6 hours per week. Weekly responsibilities include a rehearsal on Sundays at 3:30 PM, followed by the weekly Sunday Service from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The pay range based on 6 hours per week is $36.86 to $43.27 per hour. The hourly amount will fluctuate depending on the number of hours worked. The position accrues PTO benefits.
