DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Choir Director & Children’s Music Coordinator at Broomfield United Methodist Church will be an accomplished vocalist and musician who will provide visionary leadership and oversee traditional worship, including but not limited to the Choir, solos and ensembles, children’s music and special music presentations. The successful candidate will embrace, support and encourage all styles of worship and collaborate across all worship services at Broomfield United Methodist Church while demonstrating leadership to help us live into these values:

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans and implements the traditional worship life of the congregation at the direction of the Broomfield UMC Director of Worship Arts and Lead Pastor
- Collaborates with the Lead Pastor, Worship Arts Ministry and the Choirs to prepare and present special services through the liturgical year
- Supervises all music of Traditional services
- Coordinates the organization, recruitment, direction, rehearsals and performances of all the traditional musical groups of the Responsible primarily for the Traditional Choir which may include solos and ensembles and youth choirs, including arranging and composing music to accommodate a wider variety of music ensembles and resourcing instrumentalists and musicians from the greater area community
- Selects the music and directs the traditional Sunday morning worship services, and provides special music for special worship services
- Directs weekly choir rehearsals and extra rehearsals as necessary, worship services and additional special services, g. Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, etc.
- Coordinates pianists and organists for both traditional services
- Recruits, organizes and supervises other ensembles for the traditional services
- Plans, coordinates and directs children’s music in collaboration with Director of Family Ministries and Director of Worship Arts. This is done in conjunction with our Sunday School classes.
- Prepares children’s music for traditional and contemporary worship at least once quarterly
- Plans and directs 1-2 children’s musicals per year
- Sets a budget in collaboration with the Worship Arts and Family ministries
- Selects and orders music within the Worship Arts Ministry budget
- Recruits and communicates with new members interested in music ministries at Broomfield UMC
- Provides repertoire and soloist information to Planning Center software for publication in the weekly Worship Notes

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS
This position must be proficient in the following areas:
- Foundational skills as a vocal ensemble director: rehearsal planning and pacing, choral conducting, repertoire planning,
- Performance and direction of religious and traditional music
- Basic understanding of the singing voice with special emphasis on vocal pedagogy for a variety of ages and voices
- Positive and relational leadership style that helps create a positive and uplifting experience for volunteer musicians
Ideally, the candidate for this position will have the following qualifications:
- Formal music training
- 3 years Vocal / Choral directing experience in a congregational setting
- 3 years experience working with children in a music setting
SUPERVISION OF STAFF
None
SCHEDULE AND HOURS
This position is a managed position. With the direct supervisor, this position may manage the split of on-site time and telecommuting time. On-site hours will be a minimum of 6 hours on Sunday morning in addition to time mid-week for scheduled rehearsals, sectionals, special group rehearsals and meetings. This position is required to perform a minimum of 20 hours of work per week. This position is required to work on Sundays, Easter, and Christmas Eve. This position is granted a maximum of four (4) Sundays per year off with the prior approval of the Director of Worship Arts; Easter, Cantata and Christmas Eve are excluded.
OTHER
This position must also:
- Understand and support the vision of Broomfield United Methodist Church
- Create and foster a ministry of compassion and care within the choirs
- Support all areas of ministry as well as laity in the areas defined
- Perform tasks, from time to time, not defined above in support of the goals of the organization
- Perform miscellaneous tasks or duties in support of the daily operation of the organization
- Prepare for, attend, and participate in weekly worship planning meetings
- Participate in regular Worship Arts team meeting
COMPENSATION
This position will pay between $26,000-32,500 annually, based on experience, and is exempt from overtime. This position is eligible for accrued paid-time-off (PTO), up to 12 paid holidays off annually (depending on typical work schedule) and access to employee funded health and dental insurance.
